Woodcraft Furniture - Our Process
Process of Woodcraft:
When you order a piece of furniture from Woodcraft, you're getting so much more than a table, bed, or dining set. Every piece has a story that begins long before it arrives in your home. Whether it's one of our imported collections or a handcrafted Amish piece, each order goes through a detailed process to ensure it is built with quality, care, and attention to detail. From helping you choose the perfect style to the final delivery into your home, our team works hard to make the experience simple, enjoyable, and personalized. Here's a look behind the scenes at the journey your furniture takes from start to finish.
Choosing your Furniture:
We aim to have the best customer service to make the process of ordering furniture easy and seamless. When entering Woodcraft, it can be intimidating with all of our options. Our sales associates will understand and help narrow down choices based on your personal needs. While we do have some manufacturers that have selective sizes and colors, we have many additional manufacturers that can be flexible for some projects that require certain dimensions and colors. We have catalogs showing what is not just seen on our showroom floor and wood samples of different colors on different woods. Once we select your desired furniture, wood type, and stain color, we can process the order to our amazing builders.
Off to Manufacturers:
Within our company, we have about thirty manufacturers with three imported factory finished furniture and the rest are Amish builders.
Imports:
With our imported category, most of the furniture is made from Malaysian wood which has great eco friendly qualities. These trees grow extremely fast and are harvested specifically for furniture production which demonstrates the hardness and density that it shares with American hardwoods. Once these trees are harvested, they are stripped, sanded, and processed to be made into boards for furniture construction. Malaysia then transports and ships the lumber to our American factories. They are then assembled in those factories based on the orders and stock needed. This process typically is more cost effective due to the nature of the production making vast quantities of the furniture. There are not many customizable options, but they have magnificent pieces of furniture that are built to last and quality real wood.
Amish:
When the Amish receive one of our orders, they will start on that piece based on the specifications we have listed. This includes a choice of wood not limited to but including Brown Maple, Sap Cherry, Red and White oak, Walnut, Hickory, Barnwood, etc. Once they gather the materials and measurements, they will mill the wood and fabricate the pieces needed. Once the pieces are created, they will either be assembled or remain disassembled based on the finishing needs.
Finishing Options:
There are three main choices when it comes to finishing and color option when ordering furniture.
1. Imported Factory Finish: This process is seen with two of our manufacturers that have their own colors and finishes that are not customizable. They will be sanded, color treated, and sealed before they are sent to our store.
2. Amish Stain: The great thing about Amish stains is that the shops in both Northern Ohio and Indiana share the same finishing formulas which allows for the colors to span across many manufacturers. When the Amish are finished procuring the furniture they will either send it to Woodcraft Furniture or one of their finishing shops. This process is extremely similar to ours at Woodcraft yet they use oil based stain. Oil based stain soaks deep into the wood for a rich color and slow drying. They seal this furniture and transport it back to our store.
3. Woodcraft Finishing Team: We currently have three amazing men working in our finishing shop. They arrive before the sun is up and work extensively with custom and standard finish/paint options. Within the three men, they have over 100 years of experience! Byron does our paint projects and runs his own side business. Tony is in charge of sealing and protecting our furniture with three coats of poly urethane. Finally, Chris, our owner, does most of our staining projects. These three workers take incredibly close attention to detail, colors, and tone to ensure both custom and standard finishes look perfect!
Delivery/pick up:
Finally, once our furniture is completed we will reach out to our customers to either inform them of pick up or options for delivery. If you choose to pick up furniture with your own vehicle, we will most likely have someone at the store able to help load, but be sure to bring blankets to protect the furniture and maybe an extra hand! Our delivery team is our own staff which allows the guys to protect and transport the furniture with ease. We typically have deliveries from 9-5 during the week. They will come into your space and place the furniture right where you would like it! They will ensure the furniture is assembled and spotless before leaving. If you need any contracting work, we have multiple that we partner with so you don’t have to go through the hassle. From the moment you walk through our doors to the day your furniture is delivered, every step of the process is centered around quality and customer care.
